Generations

I just read an article online that is a list put out by a college that is intended to keep professors in touch with the incoming students. This list is the new students reality. It included things like these kids don’t know now to write in cursive. That is shocking to me; don’t know how to write?! Email is too slow, there has always been professional athletes with HIV. The nation has never approved of the job Congress is doing. One way or another, “It’s the economy, stupid” and always has been. If you want to read them all of this list click here.
Somehow I thought I did a pretty good job of keeping up with a new generation but these things astound me. The world changes at an amazing speed and how do we ever keep up? When I was a kid we had a 10 party phone line and you had to recongize your ring; or you could just answer someone else’s phone and talk to the person calling because you knew them too. And you could pick up the phone anytime and if someone else was on it you could all just talk to each other. We didn’t even have a TV after my brothers broke the one myparents bought and we didn’t even care.
I have a 9 month old grandson and it is impossible to imagine the world he will live in. The one thing I know that never changes; human nature. If you don’t give your child love he lives with those consequences for his whole life. If you lie you pay. Basic values never change. How about you treat other people like you want them to treat you. Hmmmmmm, I think we have heard that for around 2,000 years or more. Things around us change but the basic human needs never change.
